ESL Level 1
This competency-based and standards-aligned course is the first in a series of learner-centered courses. It is designed to develop Low-Beginning (Level 1) communicative competence and build skills in:
- Listening
- Speaking
- Reading
- Writing
- Critical thinking
- Numeracy

Instruction, tasks, and projects in this course are designed to help adult English learners develop essential language skills and content knowledge related to their civic, educational, and career advancement goals, and to support their successful transition to High-Beginning (Level 2) ESL or Integrated Education and Career Training classes.
