March 31 is César Chávez Day, a special day recognized in the State of California. César Chávez remains important in American history. Chávez was a champion of farm workers’ rights and he approached his work with the same commitment to non-violence as Martin Luther King, Jr. For many people, celebrating César Chávez Day means participating in community service projects as a way of recognizing his influence as a labor organizer and workers’ rights champion.
